My poor cat. I took him to the vet last week because one of his ears was bothering him a little. The vet said he had a yeast infection in his ear and that he'd wash his ear out and give me drops for it. Well, after the ear-washing, my cat now has Horner's syndrome and and completely lost his equilibrium. He stumbles and falls and is so pathetic. I took a robust, healthy cat to the vet and brought home an invalid. I'm so distraught and feel so guilty about what has happend to him. Has anyone else had an experience like this. Did you cat recover?

Thanks for your thoughts, all your posts were spot on. In January 2009 (8 months after losing my fur-girl), I was in desperate need of cat cuddles and visited our local cat adoption shelter. I was 'found' by an adorable 10 month old male furball who completely won me over. I'll always miss my little girl, but my tears are now from laughter at Charlie's antics. :)

Hi again,
Just thought I would update with the solution to my litterbox issue! I ended up buying a small bag of cleaned sand (the type you use for a childs sandpit). After a day or two my furball started using it and there hasn't been a problem since! Its clean, around the same price as cat litter and is always available from my local hardware store. Thanks everyone for your suggestions :)

Hi all, and thank you for your posts. My 17-year old kitty Tribble exhibits some of the symptoms you have described: she yowls loudly through the night, is sometimes wobbly when she walks, has occasional difficulty jumping up onto low things, was vomiting more and more frequently, and seems disoriented but not all the time. I have taken her to the vet who can't find anything wrong with her except cataracts. We put her on food for sensitive tummies and she is throwing up less often than she was. Because she never yowls during the daytime, I suspect it has nothing to do with pain but I don't know that for sure. Tribble's hearing is less acute than it was. She still uses her litterbox correctly. Like Nikki above, Tribble loves to sleep on my lap and would be happy to be there all day if she could manage it. All of your posts sounded familiar in some way. I'm not sure whether I should be thinking about helping her cross over to the other side.

Hi ya'll...
I'm a long time reader and first time poster.
I'm looking for some info for my Mom. Her 7 year old (up to this point, normal) cat "Clawdia", is attacking its tail. Not in a playful way, but it is literally tearing it up. The hair is gone and the tail looks like hamburger. She took it to her Vet, he gave it a steroid shot, gave her some oral meds and some cream to rub on it. That worked for a couple days, now the cat is back at it with a vengeance. The other option is to amputate. Has anyone ever gone through this?
Any help at all will be most appreciated.
Thanks,

I am having problems with diaherria with 3 of my 5 cats. One of them, Dusk, has been having watery stools now for nearly 2 months. He's been to the vet, had blood tests (all normal), stools tested twice (negative both times), & been treated with a liquid medication twice (no help).

Lazarus just tested positive for round worm, but Dusk & Clarisse (the other one) were both negative. Of course, I'll get Lazarus treated again (he was when we got him), but I need help for Dusk. He's got watery stools, is losing weight, & beginning to show signs of weakening. Dusk is only 9 years old - not exactly young, but not old either.

Pumpkin is no good - I can't get him to eat it. I've been trying a powder I got from the vet on his food, with no results. I'm beginning to panic. I just lost my 18 yr old cat in January - I can't bear to lose Dusk too, so soon after my Baby Kitty.

Any suggestions would be welcome & much appreciated.

Oh - & yes - they are the same Dusk & Lazarus that are on this week's picture page, sleeping together.

Thanks,

Regarding keeping the cat inside: I adopted a cat who was an outside cat and was about 6 years old. My method for keeping him from trying to go outside was this. I stood outside the door with a spray bottle of water. I would open the door a couple inches. Gus would come over and try to open it further. I would spray him and close the door. We did this over and over until he no longer tried to go outside. I still occasionally took him outside on a leash and halter -- not often, cuz he figured out how to get out of the halter. He didn't want to go anywhere, he just wanted to mosey around and eat grass.

Still grieving a bit but am ready to start reading and writing again. Esp w/my new, disabled stray who adopted me last year.

That does sound young to neuter a cat. How old is Koda now? Some cats attack hands whether they're neutered/spayed or not. My male furball was neutered at the shelter at 9 months old. I was told that he won't have the full aggressive tendencies of a male cat because he was neutered so young. Hope that helps?

One of my 3 furballs was adopted from the Trenton animal shelter (I think he was found on a corner selling drugs! He's striped, naturally,, from his time in jail.) Anyhow, someone at the shelter made the decuision to neuter him at 7 or 8 weeks of age. As a result, Koda has NO IDEA that he is a grown cat. Some of his kittenish antics are comical, but not the one where you pet him and he suddenly attacks your hand with claws aand big-cat teeth! I try to keep him indoors, but I'm fighting a losing battle, since he was once an outdoor cat. (My two others wouldn't go outside if you lit their tails on fire.) Anyone else got a neutered-too-young kitty?

I use Rescue Remedy (the people version, not the pet version) on one of mine for anxiety issues. It seems to tone down the spraying incidents although it doesn't alleviate it, it makes it much less in occurence. I get it in the organic/holistic section of our Wegman's Grocery Store. I am not into holistic meds too much but someone recommended it and it seems to help me. You just squirt a bit of the dropperful into the mouth. Good luck.

I can't say about any of our cats snoring but we do have a cat that when she washes herself is awful noisy. Click your tongue in your mouth and that is what she sounds like washing herself. It is funny. She also has to sit on my chest and wash my chin. And arm and anything thing else she feels needs to be washed.
